about.

Matt Crook is an award-winning Australian actor, theatre maker and voice artist, known for roles in the features Top End Wedding (2019, dir. Wayne Blair), Monolith (2023, dir. Matt Vesely) and Awoken (2018, dir. Daniel Philips), and most recently the series Treasure & Dirt (ABC).

His breakthrough came the hard way. When Projector Films put out an open casting call for One Eyed Girl (2015, dir. Nick Matthews), close to a thousand submissions came in. Matt won the role of Marcus, a street kid who falls into a cult, and vanished so completely into the part that the film's own producer, who had argued against casting him, later called it the standout performance of the picture. One Eyed Girl went on to win the Jury Prize at the Austin Film Festival, and it set a pattern. Matt tends to be the choice no one sees coming and everyone remembers.

Since then Matt has quietly made a career of playing ordinary people caught in extraordinary moments, with honesty, humour and heart. On stage he has built a long body of work with the State Theatre Company of South Australia, including Creditors, Switzerland, Between Two Waves, Babyteeth, Romeo and Juliet, Volpone, Pornography, The Give and The Take and, most recently, Welcome to Your New Life.

Though Matt's family hail from the Flinders Ranges, he cut his teeth in Adelaide theatre after graduating from Flinders University, and has since worked extensively across Australia and in the US, Canada and China. He is now developing two new works: Collegiality with Theatre Republic, and The Dig, a play drawn from that same outback country, with Windmill as part of Indie-Mill. He can be seen next in the feature film Lady Death (2027, dir. Kiah Roache-Turner).
